OverDrive Audio Book Program


OverDrive is an online service providing digital media through Air Force Libraries. At present, AF Libraries have purchased over 400 audio books that you may check out and enjoy. Some  music, and movies are available as well. Here are some quick facts:
  • Check out period = 10 days.
  • Max number of items checked out at one time = 5.
  • Allows audio book downloads.
  • Offers CD sound quality.
  • Allows transfer to a portable device.
  • Check for compatible devices
  • Allows burning to CD for select titles.
  • Titles may be downloaded by chapter or part.
OverDrive Directions:
  1. Obtain your account number from a library staff member.
  2. Go to http://af.lib.overdrive.com/ on the internet.
  3. Click the login tab.
  4. Enter the account number from step 1.
  5. Load software.  Load the appropriate software if needed on your device (OverDrive Media Console, Windows Media Player ) following the directions provided. This software needs to be loaded in order to play the audio book.
  6. Check out an audio book using the menus on the left side of the page
  7. Click the "add to cart" link for each book you want.
  8. Then the "Proceed to checkout" link to check out.
  9. Review and confirm the selections in your cart then click the "Confirm check out" button.
  10. On the pop-up screen that opens, select folder you want the file to save to or take the default (You need to know where the file is being saved so you can find it later.) and click "OK".
  11. All parts should be checked and click "OK".
  12. Click Download next to the item icon. Any interruption of internet service will stop the download and you will have to repeat the process.  After 3 attempts you will need to contact OverDrive to continue
  13. From the OverDrive Media Console you are able to listen to, burn, transfer to an other device your downloaded audio book. The Windows Media Player will also play the audio book
