Holds

In the event that the item you wish to borrow is checked out to another individual, it is possible to place a hold on that item. By doing so, you will be called when the item is returned and the item will be held for you for three days at the circulation desk. You must come to the library to pick up the item within this time frame. If you fail to do so, the item will either be returned to the shelf or the next person on hold for the item will be called. Bear in mind when you place a hold that others may have placed a hold on the same item before you. If this is the case, the holds will be processed from earliest to latest. The item will be held for you after everyone ahead of you has had a chance to borrow the item.

Items with holds cannot be renewed. Thus, there may be times when you can keep an item only for the initial borrowing period. This is often the case with high demand items such as CLEP materials. Entertainment videos cannot be placed on hold. Items not checked out cannot be placed on hold. Hold requests for entertainment videos or items on-shelf will be ignored.

You may place a hold in person at the circulation desk, by calling the library at 572-3939, or by placing an online hold request through our catalog.

Only Holloman Library items may be put on hold.   If you want an item that is located other than the Holloman Library an an Interlibrary Loan is needed.  Interlibrary Loan (ILL) is borrowing of library materials between libraries.

Placing an Online Hold Request
Follow the steps outlined below to place an online hold request through our catalog:
  1. Enter the library catalog.
  2. Search the library catalog using any of the options listed to find the title you wish to place on hold.
  3. If your results list has more than one item (e.g. a search on Holloman resulting in eleven titles), select the item you want and click the View icon next to the title.
  4. If the item is checked out, it will show the date it is due back. Remember that you can only place holds on items that are checked out.
  5. Left of the item is a details button. Click on the details button.
  6. The first choice on the next screen is Place Holds. Click this choice.
