Renewing

If you need an item beyond its original due date, you can usually renew it. Renewing extends the due date by an amount of time equal to the original borrowing period. You may renew an item in person at the circulation desk, by calling the library at 572-3939, or by renewing online through our catalog. (See Renewing Items Online, below)

Items may be renewed two times with some exceptions. Entertainment videos and DVD movies may not be renewed. Items with holds on them may not be renewed. Items for which a third overdue notice has been generated may not be renewed. Certain high-demand items may also have renewal limitations at the discretion of the library.

Renewing Items Online
Through our catalog it is possible to renew your borrowed items. As indicated in above, there will be times when renewing an item is not permitted. You will receive a message to this effect if you try to renew an item that cannot be renewed.

In order to use this function, you must first obtain a library PIN (Personal Identification Number). This number in conjunction with your User ID (made up from the first 4 letters of you sponsor's last name and the last four of your sponsor's SS number. (example SMIT1010) ) will give you online access to your library records. The PIN number cannot be given out over the phone. You must come to the library with a valid form of identification to receive your PIN.

Once you have your PIN number, you are ready to renew items online:

  1. Go to the Catalog screen and click on "My Account".
  2. Click on "Renew My Materials".
  3. Place your User ID in the User ID text box. Your User ID is made up from the first 4 letters of you sponsor's last name and the last four of your sponsor's SS number. (example SMIT1010)
  4. Skip Alternate ID.
  5. Place your PIN in the PIN text box.  You can get you PIN number from the library circulation desk with a valid military ID card.
  6. Click List Charged Items.
  7. To renew selected items, verify that the Renew Selected Items radio button is selected and left click the check box next to each item you wish to renew. To renew all items, simply check the Renew All radio button.
  8. Click the button labeled Renew Selected Items.
  9. If the renewal is allowed, you will receive a message indicating success and showing the item's new due date. If the renewal is not allowed, you will receive a message indicating failure with a brief explanation.
